Members of the philanthropic community (that’s all of us!) know giving is important, no matter the type or size of gift. We also know giving makes us feel good! Nonprofits doing critical work around our region, country and world count on their community of supporters more than ever to make progress and fulfill their mission. Which way is right for you? Asset-based gifts: These include gifts of appreciated stocks or securities which may help you when it’s tax time or a Qualified Charitable Distribution from a retirement fund if you’re 70½ or older.

Grants from a Donor Advised Fund (DAF): If you have a DAF, you’re already set up for easy giving. Those funds are already earmarked to do good – send them out to fulfill their destiny! (But be sure you know the rules and make sure the nonprofit knows they’re from you, so they can thank you! Read more about using your DAF for maximum impact.)

Legacy Gifts: Planning a legacy gift can help you decide how you want your personal legacy to help others beyond your lifetime. This can mean a simple bequest, making an organization the beneficiary of a retirement account or insurance policy, or a more complex planned gift. At FareStart, we offer Legacy Circle recognition to donors who designate a gift to us in their will or estate plan. Our Legacy Fund, new in 2025, is a restricted fund option for those doing estate planning who want their legacy to support the long-term effectiveness, impact and sustainability of FareStart in our region.

Volunteering: Volunteering is giving! So many organizations, including FareStart, rely on great volunteers. The real rewards, however, are the connections we make when we work together in community.

Recurring Giving: For ease and convenience, you can automate your giving – just set it up once at the level and frequency that feels right. Workplace Giving campaigns also work to spread your giving out and make it automatic (and some companies will match your donation!)
