Yusra's Story: "The reasons I joined this program are completely different than what I am getting out of it.”

Yusra (she/her) is a bright and motivated young individual. She joined FareStart’s virtual Youth & Young Adult Barista Program’s Job Readiness Track three months ago with the motivation of getting back into school. The program is in partnership with the Y Social Impact Center, that assist with housing and offer counseling services to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or other challenges.

Yusra noticed that her ability to go to school was being impacted by her mental health. When she heard about the opportunity to apply to FareStart’s program, she was eager to get started.

Yusra is finding many benefits of the program she did not expect stating, “the reasons I joined this program are completely different than what I am getting out of it.” She realized she was missing a lot of skills that the program is teaching her, including communication and how to deal with conflict in the workplace.

Yusra recently graduated from the Youth & Young Adult Barista Program with many large goals she is working towards, including getting back into school and receiving her GED.

With her drive to continue working on herself and passion to achieve these goals, we have no doubt that she will accomplish many great things!
