Take two minutes to voice your support of FareStart

A message from FareStart CEO Angela Dunleavy-Stowell

More than three years into Seattle and King County’s homelessness state of emergency, FareStart is seeing more people than ever walk through its doors. More than 85% of our Adult Culinary students are experiencing homelessness. We are looking at a variety of ways to fund and grow our programs to meet the needs of the community.

Our supporters in the state Legislature have requested over $200,000 in the capital budget to help fund the renovation and upgrades of the kitchen equipment and facilities that are used to provide on-the-job training for our Adult Culinary Program.

You can help support this request by sending in a letter of support to state legislators. We have made it easy for you to contact the key budget writers. Just go to this link to send a (pre-written) letter to the legislators putting together the capital budget.

As we recently announced, we are renovating and upgrading the FareStart Restaurant at 700 Virginia Street during the month of April. This is a big project for us – and it is critical to providing excellent training opportunities to our students and producing delicious food for our customers.

The budget is getting finalized right now. And we need your help to support this request. It will take less than two minutes to make your support known to the right people.

The funds for the renovation of our facilities will allow FareStart to continue to:

  • Provide job training for over 300 adults a year, helping to raise individuals out of homelessness and poverty;
  • Place 90% of program graduates into employment within 90 days of program completion;
  • Make and deliver hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year to local shelters and low-income healthcare facilities;
  • Use our training programs as a model of success for other Washington State communities.

Please go to this link to send a letter to the key legislators who will help decide whether we get this funding. Thank you for your continued support of FareStart.
